Wire Down Guard
Protect the public from downed or low hanging power lines during storms, using a vehicle and barriers to restrict access until utility crews can make repairs.
- ▸Ensure public safety by preventing people and vehicles from approaching downed wires
- ▸Use vehicles, cones, tape, and flares to create a safe zone
- ▸Check in with dispatch and relay location and status information
- ▸Remain on scene until a repair crew arrives and dispatch releases the area
- ▸Keep the vehicle fueled, stocked with PPE and traffic gear, ready for bad weather
- ▸Follow all instructions from the coordinator or dispatcher
Damage Assessor
Also known as a storm damage assessor, assess damage to electrical infrastructure caused by storms, identify necessary repairs, and report findings to the utility, often working in two person teams.
- ▸Safely patrol distribution lines and identify damage from ice, wind, and other events
- ▸Determine the type and extent of repairs needed to restore power
- ▸Accurately document damage assessments with detailed notes and client reports
- ▸Lead a two person team, communicating with crews and identifying the resources needed
- ▸Adhere to safety standards for distribution and transmission work
- ▸Understand primary and secondary electrical facilities, poles, wires, transformers, and more
- ▸Troubleshoot and identify hazards on energized and de energized primary/secondary voltages
- ▸Use binoculars, cell phones, and radios to communicate and document findings
- ▸Be available for the utility's required hours until restoration is complete
Journeyman Lineworker
Skilled overhead and underground work, build, rebuild, and restore utility infrastructure to spec, live line or de energized.
- ▸Perform overhead and underground distribution construction and maintenance
- ▸Execute rubber-glove, hot-stick, and de energized methodologies safely
- ▸Read prints, follow construction standards, and complete quality work first pass
- ▸Mentor apprentices and hold the crew to the Code of Excellence
